Virginia is helping Florida as a large Category 4 hurricane looms

The governor’s office says that Virginia is answering calls for help from Florida as Hurricane Ian is expected to make landfall Wednesday afternoon. Ian is a Category 4 hurricane as of Wednesday morning with winds at 155 mph.

An Incident Management Response team from Virginia deployed to Florida Tuesday.

“Virginia received an urgent request from Florida to assist in response efforts for the incoming Hurricane Ian,” the governor’s office said Tuesday night. “Virginia will be assisting Florida with an Incident Management Response Team and they are deploying today. Virginia stands ready to assist Florida for the incoming weather.”

Virginia is expected to likely feel impacts from Ian this weekend including a lot of rain and some gusty winds. Stay tuned to local weather stations to stay up to date on what might be heading for Virginia.
