Friday follies
This is the first part of my new series, “Friday Follies,” in which I highlight something silly that happened in the Virginia political world each week.
This week’s interesting moment is brought to you by Republican gubernatorial nominee Winsome Earle-Sears and 2024 Trump campaign senior advisor Chris LaCivita.
LaCivita is well-known in Virginia politics as a ruthless operative for his candidate — or anyone who goes against him. He rose to the top of the Republican sphere in 2024, as he was at the top of the food chain in the Trump campaign’s hierarchy.
Now, he has an even more powerful bully pulpit — one that implies if he is not happy with you, then Trump-world is not happy with you.
This is important context for Earle-Sears, who has struggled to convince Trump supporters that she is full MAGA, after saying in 2022 that the party should move on from the former president.
Trump eventually became the nominee, and Earle-Sears fully backed him.
But the Trump campaign does not forget those who crossed them or supported other candidates.
On Thursday, I posted screenshots from Earle-Sears’ campaign website that showed stock photos with the watermarks still attached.
