The latest on snow

Meteorologist Sean Sublette said the following during a radio interview this morning:

An inch or so is expected by dusk Wednesday, as the temperature is no higher than the middle 20s. Travel will be impacted by the snow in the afternoon and through the night. Probably not wise to get out and drive around once the sun goes down on Wednesday.

Most of the snow comes Wednesday night — between dusk and dawn. The accumulating snow will be just about done at daybreak on Thursday. 4-8 inches is the idea by then, and temperatures will hover in the lower to middle 20s most of the night.

Youngkin storm update

During a press conference Tuesday morning, Gov. Glenn Youngkin discussed the preparations being put in place for the storm.

“We're expecting a very degree of snow across the state. There are lots of regions, like Northern Virginia, which is going to be on the lower end, at least, based on today's forecast. And let's call that one to two inches, and then we have really heavy snow expected, sadly, again, in Buchanon County and Dickinson County, anywhere from six to 12 inches, all the way through the central part of the state, where it's expected to be anywhere between four and six inches, and then again, into Hampton Roads, where we're expecting six to 12 inches. Again, this will be a 24 hour snow event.”

“We are deploying serious resources across the state, and that begins with road treatment going on everywhere. And once again, please drive slowly and get out of the way of the vehicles doing this really important work. We're pre-treating roads all across the Commonwealth,” Youngkin continued. “The second thing we're doing is repositioning a lot of assets. We have lots of assets that have been deployed in the Southwest for both flood and ice issues. We are leaving most of those assets there because of the snow and the continued effort to clean up after the floods, but we are deploying other assets, predominantly in the central part of Virginia and into Southwest… that includes all of our road treatment equipment, all of the plowing capabilities and accident clearing capabilities. State police, again, is now surging into their full-manning across the state and the National Guard is deployed, and we will have National Guard troops with capability deployed, yes, remaining in Southwest Virginia, but now moving to Lynchburg in case we have problems in the I-81 valley corridor, but predominantly Richmond Fredericksburg, and down in the Hampton Roads. We are moving resources onto the Eastern Shore because they don't have that many resources [for snow] to make sure Eastern Shore is taken care of. Because again, six to 12 inches of snow in this part of Virginia is a lot.”

“If you are not where you want to be by midnight tonight, please don't go. Stay off the roads tomorrow and let us do our work,” he said.

2025: House Republicans start early and attack Democrats

All 100 seats are up for election this November in the Virginia House of Delegates, and Republicans have already gone on the offensive against Democrats. The Republican State Leadership Committee released a new six-figure paid media attack ad Tuesday accusing Democrats in the General Assembly of blocking tax cuts and efforts to lower electric costs and refusing to crack down on illegal immigration.
