Rouse announces money haul

Virginia Beach City Councilman Aaron Rouse on Tuesday announced his fundraising numbers from the second half of 2022 as he looks to give Democrats some extra cushion in the state Senate by winning the special election next week.

Rouse’s campaign announced that he raised $977,000 in the second half of 2022, for a total of $1.1 million over the course of the year. Rouse benefits from previously running for the state Senate in a seat that will be open next year. Once Jen Kiggans won her congressional election in November, Rouse announced that he was shifting gears to run for her seat and finish her term in office.

Rouse is running against Republican Kevin Adams to replace Kiggans.

Democrats held a 21-19 majority with Kiggans in the chamber. A Rouse win would give them a 22-18 majority.

Lambert posts endorsements but some of the names on her list say they did not endorse her

Ann-Frances Lambert by all accounts plans to run for the Democratic nomination in a new open seat for Richmond in the House of Delegates. While she has not officially declared her candidacy, she has posted on social media that her campaign kickoff will be on Jan. 15. She also posted a list of endorsements from prominent Democrats Monday, but Virginia Scope has confirmed that some of the names on that list have in fact not endorsed Lambert.
