The rundown

  • A gunman opened fire inside a Walmart in Chesapeake killing 6 and injuring more. Virginia’s top lawmakers respond to the tragedy.

  • Tom Garrett announced a return to politics by running for the House of Delegates. His former congressional staffers are still being asked by lawyers to be interviewed for the nasty divorce he has been going through, however.

Six killed by a gunman at a Walmart Chesapeake

A shooting at a Walmart in Chesapeake last night resulted in six victim fatalities and four injuries according to police. The shooter was a Walmart employee and is also dead at this time with what police believe to be a self inflicted gunshot wound.

The shooting took place at the Walmart on Sam’s Circle. The shooter has not been identified yet, but he was a male and he used a pistol to murder his victims.

Our hearts break with the community of Chesapeake this morning. I remain in contact with law enforcement officials throughout this morning and have made available any resources as this investigation moves forward. Heinous acts of violence have no place in our communities.

This morning is another sad day for America’s inability to face its gun violence epidemic. Our hearts go out to the families in Chesapeake. You can’t say you’re serious about crime and not address the proliferation of guns. Gun violence prevention is crime prevention.

Multiple fatalities — just before Thanksgiving — right here in Virginia. It’s devastating to think of the family and friends who won’t ever spend a holiday with their loved one again. We must redouble our efforts to stop the horrors of gun violence. https://t.co/uAz0JhsPuY
