Boysko is endorsing Walkinshaw
State Sen. Jennifer Boysko, D-Fairfax, is endorsing James Walkinshaw in the Democratic primary for Virginia’s 11th Congressional District.
“My constituents in Herndon, Reston, Great Falls, Wolf Trap, Vienna, and McLean need a fighter who knows what they’re doing in Congress. We’ve had that in Gerry Connolly, and that’s what we’ll get with James Walkinshaw,” Boysko said. “As Gerry’s chief of staff and on the Board of Supervisors, James has delivered progressive results. He knows our community and he knows how to get the job done. I’ve worked with him for years and I’m proud to endorse him.”
Connolly also endorsed Walkinshaw.
“James brings unmatched experience, a depth of knowledge about federal issues, and a steadfast commitment to progressive values,” Connolly said. “When I took office in 2009, appointing him chief of staff was one of the best decisions I made. For more than a decade, he led our office with skill and professionalism and was by my side for the toughest fights — passing the Affordable Care Act, opposing extreme Republican policies, ending harmful government shutdowns, and standing firm against Trump’s first Administration.”
In addition to Boysko, Connolly, and former VA-10 Rep. Jennifer Wexton, Walkinshaw has already been endorsed by Dels. David Bulova, Brianna Sewell and Rip Sullivan.
Walkinshaw served as Connolly's chief of staff for more than 10 years before he was elected to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors in 2019.
Connolly announced his retirement in a message to supporters last month, citing his cancer diagnosis.
“After grueling treatments, we’ve learned that the cancer, while initially beaten back, has now returned,” Connolly wrote.
In addition to Walkinshaw, state Sen. Stella Pekarsky, D-Fairfax, is seeking the Democratic nomination in the 11th District.
VA-11 leans heavily in Democrats’ favor, making a primary for the nomination the only competitive election for this seat.
