A look at locality trends on partisan voting since 2020

VPAP provided information showing how different locality’s voting trends shifted between 2020, 2021, and 2022. In 2020, Virginia voted for Democrat Joe Biden by 10 points. Then, in 2021, Republican Glenn Youngkin won the gubernatorial election in a state that many people considered Democratic. The year following Youngkin’s victory, Democrats in federal elections overperformed expectations and shifted areas back to the left.

Below is a look at specific localities that will impact this year’s General Assembly elections and how they shifted between 2020, 2021, and 2022 — thanks to numbers provided by VPAP.
